Masters Of Comics: Inside the Studios of the World’s Premier Graphic Storytellers-Review

One of my favourite things to do at a Comic Con is explore Artist Alley. I am able to watch talented people show off their skills and sometimes I get lost watching them create commissions. Another favourite thing to do is attend artist and writer panels and listen to the creative process comic creators go through. I find it fascinating and it’s like a “Behind The Scenes” feature on a Blu-ray.

Masters Of Comics: Inside the Studios of the World’s Premier Graphic Storytellers” by Insight Editions is like a one-on-one panel just for you with some of the greatest comic book creators who have ever lived! Not only does the large book (I love big books!) have gorgeous printed artwork by the artists, it also has fantastic interviews. Reading about how some of my favourite artists have grown over the years is a fascinating discovery. Sometimes at panels I am too nervous to think of questions, or somebody else may ask my question first! This book is able to give me an audience with talent that I may never see in England. With this book the panel comes to you!

I fell in love with this book as soon as it came out of the envelope AND it is the first in a series! Even though many artists feature in it, I would love to learn more about as many artists as I can. The questions which were asked by Joel Meadows were incredible and thought provoking. Meadows will be at the Portsmouth Comic Con in May and will be selling the book there. It is not out until June and I feel it will be a popular, so grab them or pre-order them while you can!

Frank Cho’s art jumping off the page.

The book features over twenty articles and here are just a few of the artists who feature:

  • Frank Cho
  • Walter Simonson
  • Dave Johnson
  • Tim Sale
  • Frank Quitely
  • Rafael Alberquerque
  • Laurence Campbell

I met Walter Simonson at last years Portsmouth Comic Con and it was like meeting comic book royalty.

Some of the artists who feature in the book will be at the Con and I cannot wait to speak with them and get them to sign their part of the book. I also cannot wait for Meadows to sign my copy and for me to pass on my thanks for such a wonderful addition to my Big Book Collection!

Frank Quitely. A hero of mine.
