The world always needs more Wonder Woman and this film delivered a fantastic tale which threw Diana directly into the spotlight.
Wonder Woman:Bloodlines is filled with action, comedy, emotion and even more action! I have watched it twice now and each fight scene gets more intense the more I lose myself in the story.
Try and read this synopsis without getting excited, I dare you!
In Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, Amazon princess Diana of Themyscira chooses to save fighter pilot Steve Trevor and return him to his home in America – setting in motion one of Wonder Woman’s most captivating chapters. Fulfilling the role of both ambassador as well as protector, Diana soon earns the name Wonder Woman from the gracious people of Earth. Equally strong in body, heart and will, she makes it her mission to help a troubled young girl enlisted by a deadly organization known as Villainy, Inc., whose criminal members have their sights set on invading Themyscira, Diana’s paradise home. Prepare for a thrilling quest packed with brutal battles, mysterious mythology and endless wonder!
If that doesn’t wet your appetite then check out this trailer. It only scratches the surface and leaves you wanting more!
Now, here are my thoughts on the movie, and I have a lot of them! From start to finish the storyline was fast and hard-hitting. We were introduced to all the main characters efficiently. By now many of us know Diana’s origin story so not too much time was spent on Themyscira (That is always fun to say out loud!) with Steve Trevor and the rest of the Amazonians.
Once we were introduced to main characters back in the real world we were then taken on a non-stop action adventure with villains of all shapes and sizes. I will not give my favourite villain away but it was a very slippery character from Greek mythology!
Now, let’s get to the action and imagery that went along with it. This film had many fight scenes and I loved them all. Some reminded me of the scenes from the Injustice games and a few times I felt like I was controlling the heroes on the screen. I never play as the villains! Each punch, kick and explosion could be felt. Sometimes in Wonder Woman stories we see Steve Trevor coming in at the last minute and saving the day. I was happy to see that Diana is the absolute hero of this story from start to finish, she needs no sidekick!
Sam Liu (Reign of the Supermen) and Justin Copeland (Batman: Hush) co-directed the movie and I really want these two to work together more in the future as their combined talent has created an explosive movie with a lot of heartfelt emotion.
I would have gone into great detail here of all the amazing voice talent that appear in this movie but if I do I might give away some of the surprise characters AND villains! I will say that Rosario Dawson was a fantastic Diana, yet again. I hope we get to hear more of her in the future.
The special features on the DVD/Blu-ray and Steelbook are listed below and they are as action-packed as the movie!
DC Showcase: Death (Animated Short) – Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Death is produced & directed by Sam Liu (Justice League vs. The Fatal Five) and written by J.M. A Sneak Peek at the next DC Universe Movie, Superman: Red Son – An advanced look at the next animated film in the popular DC Universe Movies collection.
I have watched the Red Son sneak peak SO many times. It is one of my favourite Superman stories and just looking at the list of voice talent is enough to make me impatient!
